Let me tell you a secret.
I started writing books and publishing them online in 2007.
In 2008 I had "some" success.
But it wasn't until September 2015 I made a real break-through.
The worst part...
I only had myself to blame
I hate to be the one to tell you this.
But if your passion is knitting butterfly patterns and that's the only thing you want to write a book about...
The only ones who will buy it are your nearest and dearest.
The truth is, if your passion is something obscure like that, you're probably better off starting a blog.
And if you also share some recipes there might even be an audience.
You think I'm harsh?
You're right, but if I don't tell you this right now, you'll hate me for it 10 years down the road.
I sure as hell wish someone had told me what I was doing wrong 8 years ago.
It would have saved me a lot of time, money and frustration.
You see the problem is simple, really.
If you want to sell books, you have to publish books readers actually look for.
"No shit, Sherlock?"
Well, I didn't say it was rocket science.
In fact, the solution is actually really simple
You have to write the books people want to buy.
The first step is the simplest and most important.
You have to pick the right genre.
For most publishers that's actually a huge problem.
Let me explain...
Before you become a publisher you are an author.
And before you become an author you're a writer.
Writers have passions they can't let go.
There nothing wrong with having passions that you love to write about.
I write a ton of stuff just because I like to do it.
In my spare time.
Let me put it this way...
If you're working at a hardware store and your passion is knitting butterfly patterns you're not going to do that while you're working at the store.
At least not if you want to keep your job.
I hear people talk about how they want to get into publishing because they want to follow their passions all the time.
Who can blame them. That sounds like a lot of fun.
It's very rare for "a lot of fun" to pay the bills and feed your children.
Oh yes. I do hear the protest. Protest all you want. You know I'm right about this!
Unless you're one of the lucky few who's passion just happens to coincide with a hugely profitable genre, you'll have to save your passion for your free time.
Now the good news is it's not all gloom and doom.
Did I say hours?
What I meant was days!
At the time of this writing there are 5537 genres for Kindle books on Amazon!!!
Five Thousand Five Hundred And Thirty Seven!!!
Do you know how long it takes to go through all of those and figure out if they're worth your time?
I do.
If you have the right tools (which come at the right price) almost a week.
Granted you might get lucky and find one you like on day one.
I have a stunning wife (yes, she's looking over my shoulder as I write this) so I'm not entitled to that kind of luck in business.
Even if you just manage 500 words a day, and don't work on weekends, that's 2,500 words toward your next book you're missing out on.
That is, if you're a full-time publisher.
And even then, one would think there was a better way for you to spend your time.
Here are a few suggestions:
The truth is, that if you lack a better option, it's actually worth it spending that week.
Here's why...
Amazon is a fairly simple marketplace.
Ok, simple might not be the right word, but the basic mechanics are pretty simple.
You want your book to show up in as many lists as possible.
Here's some good news for you. There are genres on Amazon with just 3 books...TOTAL!
Now, before you rush out there and publish a book in one of those genres here is the caveat...
Virtually nobody buys those books...and THAT is why there are only 3 books.
On the other end of the scale you have genres with hundreds of thousands, if not millions of books. These genres are obviously very popular with readers. And it makes sense to publish books in those genres.
There's an audience and there's money...what's not to love?
If you sense a "but" you're spot on.
But the problem is that you can't get on the charts in those genres unless you make a huge marketing effort, or already have an audience.
In other words, you'd be the tiniest microbe of a fish in a pond the size of the Pacific Ocean.
That's not a desirable thing either. Here are some basic rules for the type of genre you want to be in:
Those genres are difficult to find, but if you do, your books have a much better shot at ranking far better.
That means bigger royalty checks
Today there is a better option than trawling through 5537 different genres to find a good one that suits you.
More than a year ago I released my wildly popular "KD Hotspots" research package.
It helped hundreds of publishers like you find great genres for their books.
The problem is that genres doesn't stay at the same "quality" level forever.
They gain and lose popularity over time.
It was simply time to do a new version.
A simple list of the NONFICTION genres that are worth a publishers time.
Nothing more, nothing less.
I won't claim to tell you what to write in your chosen genre.
That's up to you.
However, I would love to save you days worth of your time finding your genre.
That's what "KD Hotspots - New Years Edition" is all about.
Making your life easier, and allowing you to focus on what's important.
Publishing books and bringing home royalties!
It's quite simple...
That's a huge difference.
It's double or nothing on your royalty check.
Of course, you still have to publish your book, but wouldn't you prefer to publish your book knowing that it's got a shot at earning you some money?
30 Minutes (or less) from now you could be outlining your next nonfiction book.
A book in a market primed for profit.
When you outline your book you'll know you've made a smart decision of not wasting days digging around for a good genre.
You simply get to focus on what you're good at.
Not every book you write is going to be a bestseller, but the least you can do is improve the odds, right?
When it comes to self-publishing the most important decision you make is your genre.
You can write a book in just about any genre you want and still sell, but you'll sell more if you're smart about it.
Nothing could be easier than this.
Once you're inside and have access to the genre lists all you have to do is choose one that suits you.
By doing this you've dramatically improved your chances of publishing a book that earns you royalties.
It's simple really...
"KD Hotspots - New Years Edition" solves the first two points for you.
"KD Hotspots - New Years Edition" comes with a 30 day no-questions asked money back guarantee...AS LONG as you make your inquiry through the email address provided below. Any PayPal disputes will render the refund policy null and void.
P.S. Getting a bestseller is not just about how well you write your book. It's also about the type of book you write.
P.P.S. All you have to do is pick your favorite genre from the lists and start writing.
Sincerely,
Mike Nielsen
